Abstract:

The number of homes in the US with pets is increasing, as is the costs of caring for these animals. This
paper discusses the economic, health and emotional reasons that individuals chose to live with animals,
and then examines the market for pet health insurance which has grown slowly. Notwithstanding the slow
growth of this market in the past, reasons for future growth in pet health insurance market are presented.
